About WelTel

Welcome to WelTel
We are an international organisation, committed to providing evidence-based, patient-centred health solutions, through the use of innovative, mobile technology in the management of HIV/AIDS and other health issues. We work with health implementers, Governments, local and academic partners, as well as private sector partners to undertake measurable initiatives or programs aimed at maximizing impact. Through the acquisition of two very prestigious grants, we will be scaling up the WelTel service in various clinical sites within Kenya.
At the 2010 mHealth Summit in Washington, DC, Bill Gates and others made the urgent call for more evidence of the effectiveness of mHealth applications. WelTel is committed to providing this evidence and implementing it. Our scientific team was one of the first in the developing world to show that cell phone text-messaging significantly improved both adherence to HIV medication (ARV’s) and health outcomes in individuals infected with HIV/AIDS. (see link to the Lancet article below). After the 2011 mHealth Summit in DC, CNN Money picked up a positive story on WelTel’s business prospectus amid mHealth skepticism otherwise.
Scientific implementation is the only logical and appropriate way to advance in the strategic planning of extensive scale-up of health interventions.
WelTel has the leading edge in building and implementing large scale-up for evidence-based mHealth solutions. Our team is highly-specialised, consisting of medical, technological, clinical and scientific experts, many of whom are affiliated with one of the longest-standing, international collaborations for excellence in science and research in the developing world, based at the University of Nairobi.
WelTel offers a 3T approach: it is individually ‘Tailored’, enables ‘Turnkey’ operations, and provides ‘Training’ for long-term independence and sustainability.
We are excited and honoured to begin the scale up of our service in March 2012!
